Worldwide the oil refineries are facing a fundamental change in the feedstock to be processed. The readily available crude oils are shifting from light to very heavy crude oils. This results in a sharp increase in the residuals coming from the vacuum distillation columns, and these residuals require treatment for the refineries to remain profitable.

LIST has developed several pioneering processes which will improve the economics when refining heavy crude oils by separating the valuable volatiles and discharging the concentrated pitch as dry particles or discharging the concentrated pitch to downstream technologies for further processing.

Biomass Torrefaction: Technological services

Torrefaction is a thermochemical treatment of the biomass, carried out at temperatures between 200 and 300 C in the absence of O2.
